An extra room has magically been added to your home overnight. The catch: if you add more than three items to it, it disappears. How do you use it?
As blog prompts go, this one is pretty fun!
My first thought was a beanbag, me and a book. But that’s rather pointless, really. Why have a whole extra room just for that? But three items is not very many… and do people count?
And then I thought some more. It’s a magical room, right? And we’re not allowed to ADD more than three items to it. So I interpret that to mean items already in the room don’t count.
So I’m going to have my extra room as a Room of Requirement. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ll know exactly what I mean.
If you’re not, you need to know that a Room of Requirement is a magical room that makes itself the size and shape of whatever you want or need it to be, before you enter. It always manifests fully furnished with whatever is appropriate. And it changes, depending on what you need it to be day by day.
I can think of three types of rooms I could really do with on a regular basis. One is a gym (although actually I could do with a time-turner as well to make full use of it).
The other is a room large enough to hold a dining table, so I could actually have people around to dinner or host D&D. (Although if people count as items added, this would seriously inhibit the guest list, so maybe this isn’t practical…)
The third is a guest room!
With a Room of Requirement, I could have one or other of these three types of rooms (or anything else I might happen to need at some point) whenever I need it. The ultimate house extension!
So that, my friends, is how I would use the magical extra room.

I was totally thinking of the Room of Requirement when I started reading this! Great minds think alike. My room would probably switch between meditation sanctuary to work out room to sumptuous lounge for reading or watching movies to grand library with those cool rolling ladders to fabulous kitchen/dining room for entertaining. And if you make it to the states, you’re totally invited. 🙂
